DIY Painiting My Laminate Desk

desk before

Hello everyone!  This is a little off topic but I wanted to share with you my most recent DIY (do-it-yourself-project) project.  The reason I’m posting this is because 1) I’ve found my personal interest expanding (beyond fashion) 2) everyone has some old junky piece of furniture that although its still good and functional the style […]

Inside Coterie

A couple of weeks ago I visited apparel and accessories whole sale  Coterie in New York City to preview Fall ’13.  It is a giant show that spreads through two different convention centers, the Pier 94 and Javits Center.  Just about every brand you can think of in the junior contemporary to bridge market was represented: L.A.M.B., Elizabeth & James, Paige Denim, Free People to smaller lines like I carry Knitted Dove

It is very exciting being a new buyer in this industry when only a year ago I was on the other side of the table selling as wholesaler.   I loved selling at the shows and meeting the buyers and helping them pick out their lines for their stores. And it was a whole lot less pressure than running your own store and putting your real money where your mouth is.  But you know what, I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I have and am still having the best time of my life experiencing all aspects of the fashion biz.  Each choice you make from working at the mall after school, paves the way for bigger things.   Life really is what YOU make of it.
I’ve attached a few pictures from Coterie, new looks, the environment and of course Style Espionage at the show.  Enjoy!

What Is Happening Here?

I have absolutely no idea what is happening here.  My guess is its some type of reality show taping.  I dunno but Mannequins on Parade sure is quirky. I love this town!007 006

On the Cheap: DIY Teeth Whitening

Lately I’ve been reading and seeing a lot of posts about inexpensive DIY teeth whitening.  Its always a homemade concoction of toothpaste, baking soda, lemon and some other random ingredients.  I decided to give the simplest one I’ve seen a try.  Only one ingredient: baking soda.

baking soda For a little over a month, 2-3 times per week, after I brushed and flossed my teeth like normal, I dipped my toothbrush into some baking soda and vigorously brushed my front teeth with baking soda for about a minute.  Then rinsed. Full disclosure I’m and ex-smoker (haven’t smoked in years though), red wine and black tea drinker — all fun teeth staining stuff.

Here are the results:

Can you see a difference? To tell you the truth when I look at myself in the mirror I can not see a difference but when I look at these pictures I do.  But the skeptical side of me blames the flash. What if my flash is giving the illusion of a brighter smile? I might have to do this test again in a few months and see if I get the same results.   My vote is to definitely give it a try.  Baking soda (around $2 per box) is really inexpensive and if it does the job like my photo perceives, its totally worth it.  Note: Try not to taste the baking soda, its tastes awful, and certainly don’t swallow it. Happy brushing.

The Skinny on LadyBowTie

I have more than a few theories on style. LadyBowTie is a site designed to celebrate those thoughts on fashion, beauty, and fearlessness. LadyBowTie encourages positive self-esteem and freedom of expression through personal style. It also encourages a healthy relationship between fashion and your wallet. And last but not least, LadyBowTie is here to educate on aspects of the fashion and beauty industry through style news, street-style pics, interviews, trend/forecasting, articles, weekly series, and readers’ suggestions. ~Cori a.k.a.
