DIY Painiting My Laminate Desk

desk before

Hello everyone!  This is a little off topic but I wanted to share with you my most recent DIY (do-it-yourself-project) project.  The reason I’m posting this is because 1) I’ve found my personal interest expanding (beyond fashion) 2) everyone has some old junky piece of furniture that although its still good and functional the style […]

Goodbye Oscar

Oh how you will be missed. If you didnt know, famed fashion designer Oscar de la Renta died on October 20,2914.  I wrote this on my Facebook wall a few days ago when the news broke of Oscar’s passing:

I’ve had the great honor to be a backstage dresser for Oscar de la Renta on at least three occasions for Fashion Week in NYC. His fashion shows were held at a church on the East Side of Manhattan and only open to distinguished guests, buyers and the very top in fashion publications. His shows were extremely classy without any of the celebrity circus that sometimes happens at “the tents”. The backstage, the models and his design crew were always very professional and had superior organization. You could tell this man expected the best but also that he treated everyone with kindness and respect which made you want to work harder not to disappoint him. His designs always left me awestruck and inspired. His gowns particularly were exceptional in design and craftsmanship and, I have to say it, so tearfully beautiful! My boss at these shows told the story as the show was running a wee bit late to start, that Oscar only waits for two people 1) His wife 2) Anna Wintour. We all had a little chuckle as our admiration for the designer grew. This last year I’ve had to decline working fashion week for a number of reasons but now I really regret not getting a chance to work one more Oscar show. Oh how he will be missed. RIP Oscar de la Renta http://features.aol.com/video/remembering-fashion-icon-oscar-de-la-renta?icid=aol|carousel|dl1

Saks Fifth Avenue

Kicks, trainers, sneakers, bobos…whatever you call them nothing has been more popular this year than designer athletic footwear.  Its not just for the sneaker-heads who wait in line at dawn at Foot Locker for the release of the newest Jordans either.  Sneakers have replaced stilettos on the runway. Even the most conservative “business wear” retailers, like Faconnable, are creating a line of comfort athletic footwear.  No matter your budget or preferred designer you can find a really cool pair to sport. I kick it old school with white-on-white shell-toe Adidas. Quote me: I’m predicting that Adidas is going to make a major comeback this year in fashion footwear.  What are you wearing?  Send me a pic at cori@ladybowtie.com and I’ll share it here.

The One to Watch: Maticevski Spring 2015

I feel like I’ve seen everything before (which is true, fashion all comes back around again) and its been a long time since I’ve been inspired by a designer.  Toni Maticevski from Sydney as done just that.  Consider me Wowed!  I’m crazy about his fabric choices and structure.  I’m not suggesting he’s reinventing the wheel […]

The “Murse” is Alive and Well in NYC

First of all, who came up with this name the “murse”? Which is an abbreviation for man-purse.  The name is dumb.  What man, if any, is going to carry anything called a “murse”? Certainly no guys I know, even the most fashionably liberal.  There has got to be a better name.  The “mini-man-bag?”  Haha. No.  […]

The Skinny on LadyBowTie

I have more than a few theories on style. LadyBowTie is a site designed to celebrate those thoughts on fashion, beauty, and fearlessness. LadyBowTie encourages positive self-esteem and freedom of expression through personal style. It also encourages a healthy relationship between fashion and your wallet. And last but not least, LadyBowTie is here to educate on aspects of the fashion and beauty industry through style news, street-style pics, interviews, trend/forecasting, articles, weekly series, and readers’ suggestions. ~Cori a.k.a.
