Frizzy Hair Products: The Truth

There are a gazillion products out there that say they control frizz.  Let me ask you curly haired girls out there how many of them work? The answer is none.  I have naturally curly hair, it not super curly kinky but it is curly enough to require some frizz control.  I’ve tried everything, and when I say everything I mean it.  Expensive salon products to dollar store specials.  There is absolutely nothing out there that is going to keep your curls together without frizzing at the end of the day.  And the biggest farce in the beauty industry in their “humidity control” formula. Come on! “Blocks humidity to keep your hair smooth, silky and frizz free all day…” Big fat liars. I do not believe that the science is out there to block out the weather and give those photoshopped picture perfect curls to those of us who crave them. Curly hair was born to separate, have a mind of its own, go wild and crazy and frizz-up out.  Ladies, the first step is we must finally accept this fact – we are stuck with a certain amount a frizz and there is nothing we can do about it.

That being said, I think I found a decent product that keeps my frizz down to an acceptable amount for at least half the day.  I have been on the hunt since Loreal discontinued their Anti-Frizz a few years ago.  I was a long time user and I begged and pleaded with Loreal to bring it back.  Whan I saw it on the clearance rack at Ricky’s I shed a tear and bought up the remaining stock knowing soon my love affair with Loreal’s Anti-Frizz was over.  Dontcha just freakin’ hate it when they discontinue your favorite product? Ugh!  On a whim a few weeks ago, I picked up a new product I found at Rite Aide.  It is called Pure Shine: Curls Lotion.  It comes in a big tube, 8 oz. that’s a lot compared to the 3 oz. crap (pardon my French) they sell in some salons that do absolutely nothing.  Every curly girl knows that you don’t just use a dime size amount on these manes and get frizz free glorious locks.  It takes a truck load to tame most curly headed beasts; we use our products and we use a lot of them.  The cost of Pure Shine: Curls Lotion was, well, I lost my receipt but I am certain it wasn’t more that $6. (Side comment/question: Has anyone else found that the “cheaper” brands often work better than the expensive?)  It has a gel like consistency but there is no hold, which I like.  I prefer to use mousse on top of my frizz lotion for hold.  It is also light weight so it doesn’t totally flatten my bounce.  Pure Shine: Curls Lotion last as long as to be expected in all weather and I think I found my new replacement Anti-Frizz. Hallelujah!

We curly girls have got to stick together.  It is tough out there trying to weed through all junk and overpriced beauty products.  We have to share what REALLY works for us and not the stuff that just kinda works.  If you have a curly hair product you would like so share email me cori@ladybowtie.com.  I’d love to hear from you.

Thank you for the recommendation, I’m currently using Pro Naturals Moroccan Oil Hair Treatment with Heat Protector which is a good hair product that not only reduces the frizz but protects my hair and keeps it healthy.

So happy to see you singing the praises of Pure Shine Curl Lotion! I also picked it up on a fluke (at Walgreens) after hitting the wall with my typical gel routine results. This product has proved phenomenal as a ‘base’ below my gel – providing hydration, definition and fullness. Also great alone for touch-ups. Please keep spreading the word so it stays on the market!

I have really thick naturally wavy hair that I straighten and blow dry almost every day. The Shielo Antioxidant Leave in Protectant makes my hair feel really soft if I use it when i’m straightening my hair. This product also helps seal in my straight hair for the rest of the day and makes it manageable.

It also helps tame my frizz and seal the ends of my hair when i’m blow drying my hair to make it look shiny and healthy.

The price is usually around 15-20$ for this product but I got the 3-pack online which makes its so worth it. I’ve had this product for around a year and a half and am now just staring to run out so it’s a good buy for a fair price! i would highly recommend!
